Teacher Training at The Callan School

At the Callan School in Oxford Street, we run five-day training courses for people wishing to learn how to teach with the Callan Method. We run courses for those who wish to work at the school and those who wish to teach elsewhere.

Training as Part of a Job Application

The standard 5-day course consists of various elements, including:

• A thorough explanation of theoretical and practical aspects of the method
• One or two lessons as a Callan Method student learning a foreign language at beginner level
• Extensive teaching practice with feedback from trainers
• Lesson observation
• Gradual immersion into the classroom, teaching a complete lesson on the final day

If you are doing the course with the intention of gaining employment at the London school, success on the course is likely to result in an immediate job offer. On successful completion of the course, you will be given a certificate that may be kept and shown to future employers as proof that you have been trained at the London school.

The course is free for people we intend to employ as teachers within the school.

Course Dates

Courses are held on an ad hoc basis, depending on the needs of the school. As long as we have your telephone number and email address, we will contact you as soon as we know the dates for the next course.

Training to Teach Elsewhere

If you want to use the Callan Method in another school or teach privately, you can attend a private course at the London school.

A normal course lasts for 5 days and consists of various elements, including:

• A thorough explanation of theoretical and practical aspects of the method
• One or two lessons as a student, learning a foreign language at beginner level with the Callan Method.
• Extensive teaching practice with feedback from trainers
• Lesson observation
• Gradual immersion into the classroom, teaching a complete lesson on the final day. (However, please note that we cannot allow you to conduct a lesson at the school  if you have a discernible non-native accent; our students would object.)
• Instruction and practice in lesson planning, level testing and teaching new material.

On successful completion of the course, you will be given a certificate that may be kept and shown to any future employer as proof that you have been trained at the London school.

We do our best to conduct private training when most convenient to you. We are, however, a very busy school and, as such, there are times when courses cannot be run. Contact us for more information.
